Please listen to Gandhiji's favourite bhajan, rendered soulfully by Shri. Narayan Swami, in the section Click play to listen on the right column.

Shencottah,
A slightly tangential info since you mentioned Gandhi a small anecdote...
Gandhi had met MS Subbulakshmi and he wanted her to sing a song "Hari tuma haro". Subbulakshmi did not know that song then apoligized that she could not sing and suggested someone else sing it...Gandhi replied, "I would rather hear you speak the song rather somebody else sing it"
Later she sent a recorded version of the song to him on his last birthday...
Thanks Phoenix for sharing that.
You may also read one more Gandhiji on MS

Lose oneself to music is a gift ....
Often I wonder this if I as a listener can enjoy the song of MS so much how much joy will MS have singing that song...
My fav ones by her are
- Bhavayami (Yamuna kalyani)
I get lost in the gamagams in that song how many ever times i listen to...
(Do you have the translation for that song in Tam/English?)
- Kurai ondrum illai (Raagamalika)
Noone can sing this song better and an awesome lyrics by Raajaji...
Losing oneself is a great art.
I have seen the translation of Bhavayami in some forum. I think I noted it down somewhere. Give me few days. I will let you know.
Here is the link to the translation of Kurai Ondrum Illai, though you do not need.
Kovaiputhalvan, this song is "Bhavayami Gopalabalam" by Annamacharya, set in Yamuna Kalyani. You can listen to MS rendition of the song here
